120 CCTV Cameras Deployed at Crime Hotspots Across City

In a significant push to strengthen urban surveillance, city police on Thursday installed 120 CCTV cameras across 44 identified crime-prone locations in the first phase of a citywide monitoring initiative.

The cameras have been set up under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support from Gemini Edibles & Fats India Ltd, makers of the sunflower oil brand ‘Freedom’, and are fully integrated with the Command and Control Centre for round-the-clock monitoring.

Following a recent assessment, police had identified nearly 250 vulnerable نقاط across the city, including areas with a higher likelihood of crimes and routes frequently used by offenders for escape. Of these, 120 locations have now been brought under CCTV coverage in the first phase.

Under II Town police limits, 22 cameras have been installed covering areas such as Daba Gardens, Allipuram, Bhupesh Nagar, Harbour Park and Bangaramma Mettu. Around 20 cameras each have been set up in One Town, III Town, IV Town and Kancharapalem limits. Maharanipeta and Airport police station limits have received 12 and six cameras respectively.

Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi said the initiative aims to enhance surveillance, deter criminal activity and aid investigations through improved evidence collection.

Since assuming charge on July 1, 2024, Mr Bagchi has been promoting public participation and private partnerships to expand the city’s surveillance grid. So far, a total of 13,485 CCTV cameras have been installed across residential and public areas in the city.
