24×7 Emergency Medical Room Opened at Vizianagaram Station

The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has established a 24-hour Emergency Medical Room on Platforms 2 and 3 at Vizianagaram Railway Station. The facility has been launched in partnership with the Maharajahs Institute of Medical Sciences in Nellimarla. It aims to provide passengers with quick access to emergency care.

Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra said the new service highlights the division’s focus on passenger safety. “This facility will ensure timely medical help for anyone who is injured or falls ill while traveling,” he said. He also praised Chief Medical Superintendent D. Sharath Babu and the medical team for their work in establishing the unit. Similar facilities may be added at other major stations.

Mr. Bohra urged passengers to carry valid identification and present it when asked so that medical assistance can be provided promptly. The Emergency Medical Room will be be staffed 24/7. It has trained medical personnel and essential emergency equipment. The facility is set up to administer first aid and stabilize passengers who experience accidents, slips, falls, or other unexpected injuries at the station or during travel.

Officials said injured passengers will receive priority treatment, including quick transfer to nearby hospitals. Government hospitals will be preferred when available. Passengers injured in railway accidents covered under the Railways Act will receive free treatment, medicines, and ambulance services.

Passengers with non-accident medical needs can seek help at a fee of Rs 100 through an Excess Fare Ticket, along with the actual cost of medicines. A small pharmacy will operate inside the unit. Private consultations will be available at Central Government Health Scheme rates.

Railway authorities have encouraged passengers to use the facility and said it is intended to improve safety and care during travel.
