Acting on specific intelligence, police seized 308 kg of ganja valued at Rs 1.51 crore near Kotagunnam village, within the limits of the Annavaram Police Station in the Chintapalli sub-division, on Tuesday.
Two people were arrested during the operation, while four others escaped, according to police officials. The contraband was being transported from Chitrokonda in neighboring Odisha into Andhra Pradesh. Preliminary investigation suggests the consignment was intended for distribution in the agency’s interior areas.

During a media briefing, Navajyothi Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police, said that six people were involved in the smuggling attempt. He added that two motorcycles used to transport the ganja, along with two mobile phones belonging to the accused, were also seized at the scene.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the four absconding suspects. Further investigation is underway to identify the network involved in the inter-State smuggling of ganja.
