523 screened at free eye camp in Anakapalle district
As many as 523 outpatients were screened at a free eye camp organised at Pedamushidiwada in Parawada mandal of Anakapalle district on Tuesday, drawing a strong response from residents of surrounding villages.
The camp was conducted by Pfizer Healthcare India Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Sankar Foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving access to primary eye care in rural areas.
The programme was inaugurated by Pfizer Site Head Ravi Chander Katta in the presence of senior company officials, including the heads of HR, manufacturing, finance, EHS, IT, and public affairs, along with representatives of Sankar Foundation.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Ravi Chander said the initiative reflects Pfizer’s continued focus on community welfare and preventive healthcare. He appreciated Sankar Foundation’s sustained efforts in delivering affordable, quality eye care services, particularly in underserved regions. He added that the company is keen to strengthen such partnerships to reach more beneficiaries in the coming months.
According to organisers, of the 523 patients screened, 380 were prescribed spectacles. As many as 342 patients received glasses on the spot, while the remaining 38 will be delivered shortly. In addition, 55 patients were identified for cataract surgeries and other procedures and will be referred for further treatment. A total of 174 patients were also provided with essential medicines during the camp.
Medical examinations were carried out by doctors Y. Lakshmi and M. Pravalika from Sankar Foundation, supported by a dedicated team of outreach coordinators, optometry staff, and paramedical personnel, who ensured smooth registration, screening, and distribution processes.
Pfizer officials also toured the camp facilities, interacted with beneficiaries, and later distributed spectacles and medicines. They commended the efficient organisation of the programme and the active participation of the local community.
