76 Arrested, ₹1.02 Crore Property Recovered in Vizag Crackdown

City police arrested 76 persons involved in 45 property offences during January 2026 and recovered stolen property worth ₹39 lakh, reflecting a sustained drive against theft and related crimes across the city.

Addressing a press conference at the police conference hall on Friday, Shankabratha Bagchi, Commissioner of Police, said a total of 69 property offences were reported during the month under various categories such as house burglaries, vehicle thefts, and other theft cases.

He said special teams were formed in different police station limits to track offenders and solve cases. The teams used technical tools, CCTV footage, mobile data analysis, and field intelligence, and examined each case from all angles. As a result, police detected 45 cases and recovered property worth ₹39,79,845 from the accused.

The Commissioner said focused patrolling, surveillance on known offenders and crime pattern analysis helped the police identify suspects quickly and prevent further offences. He added that the department will continue special drives and night patrols to curb property crimes and improve public safety.

In addition, police recovered 420 missing mobile phones valued at around ₹63 lakh and returned several of them to their rightful owners. With this, the total value of recovered property rose to nearly ₹1.02 crore, the Commissioner added.
