GVMC launches awareness campaign for PMAY-U 2.0 beneficiaries

GVMC Launches Awareness Campaign for PMAY-U 2.0 to Promote Affordable Housing

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched a campaign to educate citizens about the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), officials announced on Thursday.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg unveiled the PMAY-U 2.0 Awareness Brochure at the GVMC head office. The event included Additional Commissioner S.S. Varma, UCD Project Director Satyaveni, and senior officials from Housing Corporation and TIDCO.

Commissioner Garg noted that PMAY-U 2.0 has completed one year and said the government observes PMAY Awas Diwas with programmes to promote affordable housing. He also announced the Angikaar 2025 campaign, running from September through October 31.

“The awareness programmes aim to inform beneficiaries about the scheme and facilitate participation,” Commissioner Garg said. Under PMAY-U 2.0, individuals who own land and build their own homes are eligible for a subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh, with Rs 1.5 lakh from the Central Government and Rs 1 lakh from the State Government.

Beneficiaries who have completed construction can access additional government initiatives, including the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana, which provides free solar power.

Launched in 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban programme provides affordable housing for urban poor families. The 2.0 version gives financial support to individuals constructing homes on their own land. Campaigns like Angikaar 2025 help eligible citizens access these benefits.

The launch event included Housing Corporation Project Director K. Suribabu, TIDCO Supervising Engineer D. Narasimharao, TIDCO Executive Engineer Sudhakar, Housing Corporation Executive Engineer Subramanyam, GVMC UCD staff, and representatives from AHP, BLC, and CLTC.
