Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, Lalit Bohra, highlighted the importance of cleanliness as both a public duty and a personal value. Speaking at the Walkathon, organized under the mission “Clean Rails, Clean Trains, Healthy Smiles,” on Saturday, he emphasized that hygiene should be an integral part of our daily routine. The event was part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, aimed at raising awareness about cleanliness among employees, passengers, and the public.

The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR), in collaboration with the ECoR Sports Association-Waltair, organized the Walkathon. It began at the Railway Indoor Sports Stadium and ended at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station. The walk saw wide participation from officers, railway staff, sports persons, and employees. More than just physical activity, it was a collective effort to promote a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Senior officials, including ADRM (Operations) Manoj Kumar Sahoo, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer Pravin Bhati, and Senior Divisional Finance Manager & Sports Officer M. Haranadh, took part in the event. Their involvement underscored the importance of leadership in driving the message of cleanliness within the organization.

During the event, Lalit Bohra administered the Swachhta Pledge and flagged off the Walkathon. He addressed the participants, reminding them of their shared responsibility to create a cleaner, healthier future. “Walk for Cleanliness, Walk for Swachh Animi symbolizes our collective commitment to a cleaner tomorrow,” he said.

Bohra also urged participants to adopt the motto “Swabhav Swachchta – Sanskaar Swachchta.” He explained that true cleanliness goes beyond tidiness and involves adopting hygiene as a personal habit and value.

Bohra called on all employees, passengers, and the broader community to work together for a cleaner, safer railway environment. The Walkathon not only highlighted the importance of cleanliness but also reinforced the spirit of Swachhata across the railway system. Through this initiative, the Waltair Division aims to make cleanliness an everyday practice for all who work in and travel by rail.

The Walkathon served as an important reminder that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can create lasting change for a cleaner future.
