Vizianagaram comes alive for Sirimanotsav; 3 lakh devotees expected

The historic Fort City of Vizianagaram is preparing for its annual festival, Sirimanotsav, on October 7. Moreover, around three lakh devotees from Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states are expected to attend the celebrations of Pydimamba’s presiding deity.

First, the festivities start on October 6 with the Tholellu festival. This event features turmeric rituals that symbolize prosperity and protection. Accordingly, local historian Ch. Govinda Raju said, “Sirimanotsav is more than a religious event. It celebrates our cultural heritage and brings together people from all walks of life.”

Meanwhile, Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and senior officials review arrangements daily. They focus on crowd management, traffic control, sanitation, and safety. The Collector added, “We want devotees to enjoy the spiritual and cultural programmes without any hindrance.”

In addition, the Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation (VMC) has allocated nearly Rs 50 lakh for city beautification. Consequently, streets and festival routes now feature lights, floral arrangements, and temporary installations. VMC Commissioner P. Nallanayya said, “All departments are coordinating to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for everyone.”

Furthermore, a mega craft exhibition, ‘SARAS’, near Balaji Junction will display local handlooms, handicrafts, and artistry. Also, Minister for MSMEs Kondapalli Srinivas will conduct post-Assembly review meetings to oversee final arrangements.

Meanwhile, residents say the festival brings the city to life. Shopkeeper S. Madhavi said, “The energy during Sirimanotsav is unmatched. The entire city comes alive, and it feels like a festival for everyone.”

Finally, with streets adorned, cultural programmes lined up, and medical and security arrangements in place, Vizianagaram is ready to welcome devotees. Thus, the city continues a tradition celebrated for generations.
