Storytelling is Your Best Weapon in Law and Life, Says Vice Admiral Saxena

“Storytelling is your most powerful tool in law and life,” said Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Chief of Staff of the Eastern Naval Command, while addressing students at GITAM Deemed to be University’s School of Law.

In his keynote, “Storytelling: Your Best Weapon in Law and Life,” Vice Admiral Saxena highlighted how storytelling can drive both personal and professional growth. Describing it as a skill shaped by individual experiences, he urged students to strengthen their communication through reading, public speaking, and creative writing, including short stories, micro-dramas, and poetry.

Drawing on his career, Vice Admiral Saxena illustrated the practical applications of storytelling in professional settings, from job interviews to boardroom discussions. He stressed the importance of understanding one’s audience and encouraged students to document their personal experiences to enrich their lives and careers.

Echoing this, GITAM Registrar Prof. D. Gunasekharan spoke on the evolving landscape of higher education and the growing need for professionalism in legal studies. He advised students to gain practical experience through moot courts and community initiatives and highlighted emerging areas of law such as cyber law, space law, international law, and IT-related legislation, urging faculty and students to stay informed.

Prof. Gunasekharan also praised the GITAM School of Law faculty for their strong performance in the recent National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. The event was attended by Dean Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Principal Prof. Lakshmana Rao, and senior faculty members.
