Visakhapatnam City Police arrested Dharmendra Kumar, 34, a key member of the notorious Bavaria gang, on Friday. The operation helped solve nine cases of chain snatching and two bike thefts in the city.

Dharmendra Kumar, son of the late Mannu Kumar from Aladdinpur village, Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, has 24 criminal cases registered across India. His charges include multiple IPC sections and violations under the UP Gangsters & Anti-Social Activities Act, 1986.

Speaking to the media people here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crimes, Lata Madhuri, said, “Dharmendra Kumar and his associates were involved in multiple snatchings and bike thefts. The operation was planned carefully to avoid risk to the public.”

The accused and his accomplices, Suraj, Kapil, and Hazare Singh, carried out the crimes on September 17, 2025. They stole two Pulsar 220 motorcycles from Allipuram and M.R. Peta. They also committed seven chain snatchings in 1-Town, Kancharapalem, and Sheelanagar. The stolen bikes were hidden locally, and the gold chains were sold in the city.

West Inspector Meesala Chandra Mouli, who led the operation, said, “We gained the suspect’s trust over the phone and arrested him successfully. The operation also gave us leads on other gang members. This will help us recover the remaining stolen property and make further arrests.”

Police recovered Rs 70,000 in cash and one stolen bike. They also traced the gold sold by the gang. Smt. Madhuri advised, “Residents should secure valuables, verify delivery personnel, avoid trusting strangers, and report any suspicious activity to 112. Our teams are ready to respond promptly.”

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members.
