Health Minister Blames Previous Govt for Delayed Medical Colleges
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday attributed ongoing delays in medical college projects across the State to “incompetent governance” by the previous YSRCP administration. Speaking to the media, he highlighted several projects that had been stalled for years due to inaction.
The Minister pointed out that the central government had approved a medical college for Parvathipuram district. However, during the past five years, no land was acquired and no tenders were issued for hospital construction. “The previous administration left these projects incomplete. Our coalition government had to step in to take over and complete them,” he said, citing the medical college in Paderu as another example of neglect.
Mr. Kumar criticized the former government for ignoring tribal areas, including blocking the establishment of a tribal university. He called these failures “sins that have now become a burden on the current administration.” He noted that YSRCP leaders are now criticizing initiatives they themselves stalled, creating confusion among the public. The Minister also clarified that misunderstandings around privatization and public-private partnerships have contributed to inaccurate statements on these projects.
Emphasizing the coalition government’s commitment to providing medical education to underprivileged students, Mr. Kumar said, “Had the medical college been built during the previous government’s tenure, these issues would not have arisen.” He further accused the former administration of neglecting even routine school maintenance, adding that the current government is focused on restoring health infrastructure and supporting overall development across the State.
Addressing concerns about the Narsipatnam Medical College, the Minister challenged YSRCP leader Jaganmohan Reddy to inspect projects personally. “If Mr. Reddy comes to inspect Narsipatnam Medical College, I will accompany him and explain the situation. He should similarly review the Parvathipuram college and provide an accurate account, instead of misleading the public,” Mr. Kumar said.
