Every employee should learn with a child’s curiosity, Says Expert
“Every employee should learn with a child’s curiosity to adapt and transform in a changing work environment,” said Imtiyaz Arshad, CEO and Secretary of HPCL–Skill Development Institute (SDI). He spoke at the inaugural session of a 10-day “Core Competencies Development” workshop. The programme was organised by the Integral Institute of Advanced Management (IIAM) Business School in collaboration with the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, on Monday.
Mr. Arshad appreciated the joint initiative. He said it provides a structured platform to enhance leadership and technical skills for the Dockyard’s supervisory staff. He highlighted the difference between leadership and management. “Every leader is a manager, but every manager cannot become a leader,” he noted. He added that such programmes help employees meet the growing expectations of modern workplaces and lead with vision and empathy.
The workshop included addresses by Dr. S.P. Ravindra, Dean and Secretary of READ Group of Educational Institutions; Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Ghattak, Academic Advisor of Defence Programs; Prof. V. Krishna Mohan, Director General of READ Group of Educational Institutions and former Registrar of Andhra University; Prof. M. Mutyala Naidu, former Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Nannaya University; and Dr. B. Krishna Kumari, Secretary of NIPM Visakha Chapter.
The speakers stressed the importance of continuous upskilling and leadership development in today’s fast-changing work environment. They said sustained professional learning and competency enhancement are vital for defence personnel. Structured training improves managerial effectiveness, communication, and problem-solving skills. They also acknowledged the contributions of craftsmen and foremen in keeping the Dockyard operationally efficient.
The session ended with a call for participants to adopt a proactive learning mindset. The 10-day workshop will focus on leadership, management, and adaptive competencies. Activities include hands-on exercises, case studies, and group discussions. The aim is to foster continuous learning among the Dockyard’s technical and supervisory personnel.
