Cordelia Cruises Eyes 1 Crore AP Passengers

Cordelia Cruises Waterways Leisure Tourism President and CEO Jurgen Bailom announced that the company aims to attract one crore cruise passengers over the next five years.

Speaking at the session titled “From Coastal Charm to Global Conferences – Unlocking A.P.’s Tourism Potential” on the second day of the CII Partnership Summit on November 15, Mr. Bailom expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh could emerge as a significant cruise hub. He also shared plans to introduce new ships in the coming years and commended the State government for its support in developing the cruise sector.

The session addressed various tourism-related issues, including the challenges faced by the department, despite Andhra Pradesh’s lengthy coastline and rich greenery. Manoj Kumar, former Managing Director of Jungle Lodges and Resorts, discussed how Andhra Pradesh’s eco-tourism sector could learn from Karnataka.

He highlighted Karnataka’s success in selecting the right locations to create unique resort experiences with diverse activities. “Some resorts cater specifically to birdwatching, trekking, or beach tourism. A few-room resorts maintain full occupancy throughout the year,” he explained. He added that Andhra Pradesh, with even more forest cover, has significant potential and suggested focusing on attracting the youth segment.

Ravi Gosain, President of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), emphasized the need for stronger marketing of Andhra Pradesh’s tourist destinations on a national level. Vikram Cotah, CEO of GRT Hotels, noted that while India welcomed 10 million tourists last year, Andhra Pradesh attracted less than 3% of them, despite its potential.

Other speakers included Samit Garg, Managing Director and co-founder of E-Factor Experiences, and Pavan Guttipalli, co-founder of Rapido, who contributed insights on tourism promotion and development in the State.
