Healthy Mouth, Healthy Life: GIMSR Pro VC

“Oral health is essential for overall well-being and quality of life,” said Dr. B. Geetanjali, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR). She addressed students during the White Coat Ceremony at GITAM Dental College and Hospital on Friday, formally inducting the 2025–2026 BDS batch into the dental profession.

Dr. Geetanjali highlighted the connection between oral health and several systemic conditions. These include cardiovascular diseases, pregnancy complications, and mental health issues. She noted that dentists and oral health specialists play a growing role in preventive medicine and public health.

Encouraging students to be empathetic practitioners, she urged them to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism. She also encouraged the new batch to adopt digital technologies and research-based methods to improve clinical practice and patient care.

The White Coat Ceremony symbolized a rite of passage for dental students, emphasizing the ethical responsibilities expected of healthcare professionals.

Dr. V. V. N. Narasimha Rao, Principal of GITAM Dental College, outlined the BDS curriculum, academic expectations, and campus culture. He advised students to use the institution’s resources, advanced learning facilities, and experienced faculty for their overall development.

During the ceremony, students received white coats, marking their move into the clinical phase of training. Senior faculty members, including Dr. Raja Murthy, Dr. Manish Kumar, Dr. Padmini, Dr. Swarup Chand, Dr. Kalyan, Dr. Sruthi, Dr. Ravi Teja, and Dr. Sahithi, familiarized the batch with the course structure and professional expectations.

The event was attended by faculty members, parents, and senior students, who applauded the new batch as they began their professional journey. The ceremony concluded with a pledge by the students to uphold the dignity of the dental profession and to serve society with compassion and integrity.
