ADCP Cracks Down on Lax Traffic Enforcement
K. Praveen Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Traffic, has issued a stern warning to traffic personnel, stating that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those found negligent in their duties. The move follows recent media reports highlighting major lapses in traffic regulation at key city junctions.
The reports, often supported by photographs, showed traffic staff ignoring vehicle movement, engaging with social media content on their phones, and failing to effectively control signal violations. In response to these concerns, the ADCP immediately convened a teleconference with Circle Inspectors (CIs) to seek an explanation for the operational lapses.
Mr. Praveen Kumar mandated CIs to take swift disciplinary action against staff who are not punctual or who remain distracted by personal electronic devices while on duty. He also directed the CIs to conduct surprise checks within their jurisdiction to closely monitor both traffic conditions and staff performance.
Reaffirming the imperative for discipline, the ADCP stressed that during peak hours, traffic personnel must prioritize regulating movement over issuing challans, and he insisted on a visible and active presence on the roads. He further instructed the CIs to ensure all personnel recognize that their behavior is under close public scrutiny and that their responsibilities must be discharged with unwavering commitment.
Following the ADCP’s clear directions, traffic staff were subsequently observed actively regulating traffic at several key junctions in and around the city.
