Vizag Surgeon Achieves 1,000 Robotic GI Surgeries

CARE Hospitals on Friday announced that Dr. B. B. Das, Surgical Gastroenterologist and Robotic Surgeon, has completed 1,000 robotic gastrointestinal surgeries in 18 months. The hospital termed it one of the fastest milestones achieved in the region since the introduction of robotic systems.

The hospital said the procedures spanned a range of complex gastrointestinal conditions, including stomach and colon cancers, gallbladder disease, hernias, and other GI disorders. The steady rise in robotic cases reflects improved patient confidence and wider access to advanced surgical care in Visakhapatnam.

Dr. Das has been an early adopter of robotic techniques in the region and has helped introduce several minimally invasive methods that reduce surgical trauma and improve recovery. Patients from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and neighboring states are increasingly choosing robotic procedures for shorter hospital stays and faster rehabilitation.

“Completing 1,000 robotic GI surgeries in 18 months shows how rapidly technology is reshaping gastrointestinal care in eastern India. Robotic platforms offer greater precision, better vision, and improved control, which help reduce complications and speed up recovery,” Dr. Das said in a statement.

CARE Hospitals said it has strengthened its robotic surgery programme through investments in training, infrastructure, and patient education. Multidisciplinary teams now support preoperative and postoperative care.

G. Sukesh Reddy, Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, said the milestone reflects the hospital’s efforts to enhance tertiary healthcare in the region. He added that awareness of robotic surgery and its benefits continues to grow among patients.

The hospital said it plans to expand its robotics programme further with advanced training for surgeons and additional services for complex cancer care.
