Vizag sees massive signature drive against medical college privatisation
Acting on the call given by YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, party leaders in Visakhapatnam district submitted close to one crore signatures collected as part of the ‘One Crore Signatures’ campaign on Wednesday.
YSRCP Visakhapatnam district president K.K. Raju handed over 95,500 signed forms gathered from the North Assembly Constituency. East Assembly Constituency coordinator Molli Apparao submitted 83,000 signatures, while Gajuwaka coordinator T. Devan Reddy handed over 65,000. Former MLA and South Assembly Constituency coordinator Vasupalli Ganesh submitted 60,000 documents.
Speaking on the occasion, K.K. Raju said the campaign drew strong support from residents, students and intellectuals across the district who opposed the proposed privatisation of government medical colleges.
He said people turned up in large numbers wherever signature drives were held. According to him, the response shows increasing public resentment toward the NDA government’s move.
