VMRDA clears Rs 20 crore tourism project at Kailasagiri
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority has approved a major tourism development at Kailasagiri hilltop park under the public-private partnership model.
The decision was made at a recent Authority meeting, after which a letter of acceptance was sent to Trenzet Infra Limited. The Rs 20 crore project will cover nearly two acres and is slated for completion within 18 months.
The project features eco-themed cottages, Visakhapatnam’s first 360-degree revolving fine dining restaurant, and a bay-facing cafe. Kailasagiri is one of the city’s most popular tourist spots, drawing about three lakh visitors each year.
VMRDA Chairperson MV Pranav Gopal and Metropolitan Commissioner N Tej Bharath stated that the project aims to enhance the visitor experience by providing panoramic views of the coastline and surrounding hills, while serving both residents and tourists.
As per the plan, 20 boutique nature cottages will be developed along with an infinity swimming pool spread over about 650 square metres, a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 50 to 200 persons, and a dining lounge. A key attraction will be the revolving restaurant with seating for 100 guests, besides a 60 seat beach view cafe operating throughout the day.
The project will also include landscaping, two view decks, and designated parking facilities. The financial bid had earlier been evaluated by the tender committee.
Kailasagiri suffered extensive damage during cyclone Hudhud in 2014 and several proposed restoration works remained incomplete. Officials said the new project aims to revive and reposition the hilltop park as a premier tourist destination. In the last year, facilities such as a zipline, sky cycling and a glass bridge have been added.
