Youth urged to uphold nationalism and civic values

Speakers at a seminar held at Dr Lankapalli Bullayya College on Saturday said the character and future of the nation depend on the values embraced by its youth. They urged students to develop a sense of nationalism, patriotism and civic responsibility.

The seminar, titled Guiding Indian Youth towards Truth: Nurturing Awareness and Cultural Understanding, was organised by the Sri Sivananda Supatha Foundation to mark its 13th foundation day. Speakers noted that amid rapid social and cultural changes, young people must stay rooted in Indian values while cultivating a questioning and responsible outlook.

Senior journalist and author K. Raka Sudhakar Rao called upon students to study Indian history not just as an academic subject but as a source of guidance and inspiration. He said youth play a key role in nation building and should actively participate in service activities that benefit society.

Even small but consistent collective efforts can lead to meaningful and lasting change, he said.

Other speakers stressed the importance of seeking truth, promoting harmony and strengthening democratic institutions. A proper understanding of Indianness, they added, would help students become informed, ethical and responsible citizens.

Sivananda Supatha Foundation chairperson NVDS Raju, directors Radha Kumari and Prof. Raghavendran, and college principal Chakravarthi spoke about the foundation’s work in promoting cultural awareness and value-based education. They encouraged students to balance academic achievement with social commitment.

The seminar saw participation from students, faculty members and intellectuals and concluded with a call for greater youth involvement in community service and national development initiatives.
