Free solar power scheme for SC, ST families to roll out in Vizianagaram
District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy has directed officials to roll out the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families in the district during the first week of January 2026. The scheme aims to install two-kilowatt solar power panels free of cost on eligible homes, easing the electricity bill burden for thousands of families.
The Collector reviewed the scheme’s progress with APEPDCL Superintending Engineer M. Lakshmana Rao and representatives of the implementing agencies. He emphasized the need for swift delivery of benefits and directed officials to expedite the remaining work.
The programme is expected to be formally launched in the presence of Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and other public representatives. The division-wise allocation of work has been completed across the district.
Division-wise Allocation:
– Bobbili division: 3,948 houses (2,764 SC, 1,184 ST) – M/s Prasha Energy Consulting
– Cheepurupalli division: 1,326 houses (926 SC, 397 ST) – M/s Rockland Industries
– Vizianagaram rural division: 5,410 houses (3,787 SC, 1,623 ST) – M/s Sadbhav Futuretech Limited
– Vizianagaram urban division: 2,869 houses (2,686 SC, 184 ST) – Tender process under review
The initiative is expected to provide long-term access to power and benefit thousands of families in the district.
