Visakhapatnam police crack 26 burglary cases, arrest accused
The Visakhapatnam city police solved 26 house burglary cases from different parts of the city and arrested a habitual offender. During the operation, police recovered gold and silver ornaments, cash, and a luxury car allegedly bought with stolen money.
Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Commissioner of Police Sanka Bratha Bagchi said the Gajuwaka crime police arrested the accused, Acchi Mahesh Reddy alias Sunny (27), a native of Kakinada. The arrest followed an analysis of CCTV footage and technical inputs. “The total value of stolen property in these cases is estimated at ₹24.66 lakh,” he said.
Meanwhile, police traced the burglaries to the limits of Gajuwaka, Arilova, Malkapuram, Pendurthi, and Duvvada police stations. Most incidents took place at night. During this period, the accused targeted locked houses.
Referring to a key case, Mr. Bagchi said a resident filed a complaint at the Gajuwaka police station on October 14, 2025. The complainant had returned after travelling out of the city and found his house broken into. Thieves had stolen jewellery worth ₹4.31 lakh.
As similar complaints emerged across multiple police station limits, the police formed special teams to track the offender. These teams coordinated closely and intensified surveillance across vulnerable areas.
Subsequently, police arrested the accused on February 7, 2026, near Arch Road in Gajuwaka. They recovered 699 grams of gold ornaments, 3.805 kg of silver articles, and ₹40,500 in cash. In addition, police seized a BMW car, a scooter without a number plate, and burglary tools.
Mr. Bagchi said the accused, a post-graduate and former software professional, began committing thefts at a young age. He is suspected of being involved in more than 60 house burglary cases.
Finally, the Commissioner advised residents to secure their homes with strong locks. He also urged people to avoid keeping valuables at home and to inform the local police before travelling out of town to enable patrolling.
