RINL Achieves Record 72 Heats in a Single Day at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
In a remarkable demonstration of teamwork and operational excellence, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) – Visakhapatnam Steel Plant – produced 72 heats in a single day at Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) on Tuesday, surpassing its previous best of 68 heats set in January 2021. Each heat corresponds to 150 tonnes of steel, marking the highest-ever daily output from SMS-2 since its inception.
The achievement comes as all three blast furnaces at RINL operate simultaneously after a long gap, following the Union Government’s Rs.11,440 crore revival package earlier this year. The package includes fresh equity infusion of Rs.10,300 crore and conversion of working capital loans into preference shares worth Rs.1,140 crore to sustain operations and ensure the plant’s viability.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu congratulated the RINL team on X, stating: “This achievement is not just a number. It’s a testament to the hard work and spirit of every employee contributing to the growth of India’s steel sector. Kudos to the entire Vizag Steel family. Keep the steel flowing and the nation growing.”
He added that with consistent performance, the plant is on track to produce six lakh tons in August, aiming for an average of 120 heats per day.
The milestone underscores the skill, dedication, and efficiency of RINL’s workforce and reinforces the plant’s vital role in India’s steel production and industrial growth.
