Harness emerging technologies to lead India, students told

Former ISRO chairman and Padma Shri awardee A.S. Kiran Kumar on Saturday urged students to harness emerging technologies and develop the skills needed to become the country’s future leaders.

Speaking at the National Science Day celebrations organised by the School of Advanced Sciences at VIT-AP University, he said science and innovation would play a key role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He called on students to pursue scientific careers with dedication and help India gain global recognition through their work.

Emeritus professor Prasanta K. Panigrahi of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata said National Science Day encourages students to question, experiment, and explore ideas that address real-world challenges, while recognising the contributions of Indian scientists.

Former DRDO scientist Rao Tatavarti said the occasion provides a platform to nurture curiosity and scientific temper among the youth. He stressed that students must actively engage in science and innovation to make India self-reliant and globally competitive, particularly in space, technology, and research.

AI governance leader Rajkumar Elagiri Ramalingam from Mphasis highlighted the growing importance of scientific thinking in industry. He said students must combine technological expertise with ethical responsibility and problem-solving skills to drive sustainable innovation.

Vice-Chancellor P. Arulmozhivarman said the university encourages students to question, experiment, and translate ideas into solutions that benefit society.

Students from 30 schools across Guntur and Vijayawada participated in the event, and prizes were awarded to winners of various competitions.

Registrar Jagadish Mudiganti, Dean SAS S. Srinivas, Chemistry HoD Ramakanth Illa, NSD convener Manmadha Rao Banki, student welfare deputy director Khadeer Pasha, Physics HoD Nagarjune Neella, and others were present.
