YSRCP seeks TDP MP’s resignation over drug party row

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Visakhapatnam district president K.K. Raju on Monday alleged that the TDP-led coalition government has turned Andhra Pradesh into a “drug capital.”

Addressing the media at the party office in Visakhapatnam along with Visakhapatnam East constituency coordinator Molli Apparao, he criticised the alleged involvement of Eluru TDP MP Putta Mahesh Yadav in a drug party reportedly held in Hyderabad recently.

Mr. Raju demanded the MP’s immediate resignation from the Lok Sabha and his expulsion from the party. He said the incident had caused widespread concern among people across the state and alleged that the ruling party was attempting to shield the MP despite reports that drug consumption had been confirmed in blood tests conducted as part of the investigation.

The YSRCP leader questioned why the MP was granted station bail despite the seriousness of the allegations. He accused the government of adopting double standards, claiming that strict action is often taken against opposition leaders and activists in similar cases while ruling party leaders are allegedly being protected.

Mr. Raju further said the episode had raised serious questions about the government’s commitment to curbing drug abuse in the state. He urged the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident and take appropriate action against those found guilty, irrespective of their political affiliation.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media in Tadepalli, former minister Merugu Nagarjuna also demanded the immediate resignation of Mr. Mahesh Yadav. He said public representatives must uphold high standards of conduct and called for a fair inquiry into the allegations.
