Five Maoists surrender before SP in ASR district

Five Maoists belonging to the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion surrendered before Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar at the District Police Office in Paderu, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district, on Thursday.

Police identified the cadres as DCM K. Bhudra, alias Jitru, alias Kiran; PPCM Muchaki Kosa, alias Gagan; Madivi Sambatti, alias Nagamani; M. Sukamthi, alias Roni; and party member Mirgam Kosa. According to police sources, they had been involved in Maoist activities in the region for some time before deciding to surrender.

Addressing the media, SP Amit Bardar said sustained and intensified police operations in Maoist-affected areas had led to the surrenders. He added that the establishment of new security camps helped curb extremist movements. He said Maoist influence has declined steadily due to reduced public support and increased awareness among tribal communities.

The officer said internal factors also played a role in the decision. He pointed to growing disillusionment with Maoist ideology and the hardships of life in forest areas. He also referred to recent encounters in neighbouring states such as Chhattisgarh and Odisha, where several senior Maoist leaders were killed. These developments, he said, have weakened the organisation’s structure and morale.

Bardar said the Andhra Pradesh government’s rehabilitation policy encouraged the cadres to return to the mainstream. The package includes financial assistance, land allotment, employment opportunities, and access to welfare schemes aimed at long-term reintegration.

He urged the surrendered Maoists to utilise these benefits and rebuild their lives with dignity. Stressing the importance of self-reliance, he said the police would facilitate their participation in skill development and vocational training programmes.

The SP also appealed to Maoists still operating in forest areas to surrender at the nearest police station and avail themselves of rehabilitation benefits, assuring them of fair treatment and support from the administration.
