APSRTC Boosts Travel Support for Seniors, PwDs

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has rolled out a major initiative to strengthen travel facilities for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwDs), following complaints over lapses in the implementation of passenger concessions and amenities.

According to officials, several grievances were received regarding the improper identification of reserved seats, occupation of earmarked seats by other passengers, and lack of timely intervention by bus staff. Cases were also reported in which employees failed to ensure the availability of reserved seating or did not extend adequate assistance and respect to eligible passengers.

In response, APSRTC has issued strict instructions to all depots and operational units. Buses have been directed to clearly mark seats reserved for senior citizens and PwDs, while conductors and other staff must ensure that such seats are vacated and allotted whenever required.

The corporation said staff must treat senior citizens and PwDs with courtesy and dignity, warning that negligence, indifference, or misconduct would invite serious disciplinary action.

To streamline travel, APSRTC clarified that passengers may use valid identity documents such as Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card, and Passport, including digital versions, to avail themselves of the facilities.

Executive Director (Operations) A. Appala Raju has instructed officials to spread awareness through gate meetings and by displaying the guidelines on notice boards at all depots.

APSRTC said it would closely monitor services to prevent further complaints and reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, inclusive, and respectful travel for all passengers.
