VPA Unveils Port Promenade to Boost Coastal Tourism in Vizag
The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has given the city’s tourism landscape a significant boost with the inauguration of a sprawling Port Promenade near the Cruise Terminal, aimed at transforming the waterfront into a vibrant public destination.
The promenade was inaugurated on Monday by VPA Chairman Dr. M. Angamuthu, who described the project as a testament to the authority’s commitment to making the port city’s coastline more accessible to residents and visitors alike.
“The Port Promenade has been developed to provide residents and tourists with a safe and enjoyable waterfront experience. It is part of our broader vision to transform the port surroundings into vibrant public spaces that encourage tourism, recreation, and community engagement,” Dr. Angamuthu said at the inaugural event.
Designed as a pedestrian-friendly recreational destination, the promenade offers sweeping panoramic views of the harbour, ship movements, and live port operations. Officials believe this rare vantage point will make it a standout attraction for families, tourists, and cruise visitors.
The facility boasts an array of amenities, including a waterfront walking track, dedicated viewing decks for sea and ship-watching, landscaped green spaces, a recreational park, a children’s play area, a public plaza, a food court, and ample parking facilities.
Sustainability was a key priority in the project’s design. “Green landscaping and eco-friendly design elements have been incorporated to enhance the surrounding environment and create a pleasant public space for recreation and relaxation,” the VPA Chairman noted.
The promenade is complete and is set to be opened to the public shortly. Visitors can access the facility via the road adjacent to the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple near the Cruise Terminal area. Authorities have also ensured adequate parking provisions to ensure visitors can comfortably access and enjoy the waterfront destination.
