SCoR HQ Project Takes Shape in Visakhapatnam
The South Coast Railway (SCoR) is constructing a ₹121.58-crore headquarters in Visakhapatnam, designed as a modern, technology-enabled, and environmentally sustainable administrative complex for India’s newest railway zone.
The project forms part of the Indian Railways’ ongoing modernisation drive, integrating contemporary architecture with sustainability-focused infrastructure. Speaking to The Coastal Times, SCoR General Manager Sandeep Mathur said the facility has been planned as a future-ready headquarters to improve administrative efficiency and strengthen citizen-centric governance.
The complex will comprise a 10-storey tower above a two-level basement, with a centrally framed structure flanked by stepped side blocks. The design is intended to maximise natural light, improve ventilation, and enhance workplace efficiency.
Sustainability has been prioritised in line with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) standards. The building will incorporate climate-responsive features to reduce heat gain and improve thermal comfort, along with rooftop solar power systems, energy-efficient services, and water conservation measures, including rainwater harvesting and wastewater treatment.
The campus will feature landscaped open spaces, shaded walkways, and water elements designed to improve the local microclimate. Separate circulation systems for pedestrians and vehicles have also been planned to ensure smooth and safe movement within the premises.
Construction has reached an advanced stage, with the two basement levels and ground floor completed. Work on the first floor is underway, while the approach road has been completed and nearly 60 per cent of the boundary wall has been constructed, officials said.
The project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹121.58 crore, of which ₹42.14 crore has already been spent. Once completed, the headquarters will serve as the administrative hub of the South Coast Railway, marking the first dedicated headquarters for the newly formed zone.
