APEPDCL records highest annual growth in rooftop solar capacity

The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) recorded its highest-ever annual rooftop solar capacity addition in 2025-26, connecting 51,583 systems to the grid and adding 197.09 MW.

APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Immadi Prudhvi Tej said on Thursday that, as of June 30, 2026, 88,561 consumers in the utility’s jurisdiction had installed rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 475.33 MW.

According to the utility, rooftop solar adoption has accelerated over the past four financial years: capacity additions rose from 17.39 MW across 864 installations in 2022-23, to 30 MW across 980 installations in 2023-24, to 70.25 MW across 8,307 installations in 2024-25, and finally to 197.09 MW across 51,583 installations in 2025-26.

Mr. Prudhvi Tej attributed this growth to rising awareness of renewable energy and greater acceptance of incentive schemes introduced by the Central and State governments. He said APEPDCL had streamlined technical support, grid connectivity, and net metering procedures to facilitate rooftop solar installations.

Under the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, subsidies are available of ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system, and up to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system. He added that eligible Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe households are also being provided 2 kW rooftop solar systems free of cost under the scheme.

Mr. Prudhvi Tej appealed to domestic consumers in the APEPDCL jurisdiction to avail themselves of the scheme, noting that rooftop solar systems would help reduce electricity bills while promoting clean energy and environmental protection.
