Cyient Launches AI Labs for Government Schools in Visakhapatnam
Human Resources Development, IT, Electronics, and Communication Minister Nara Lokesh on Thursday virtually inaugurated CyAILS – Cyient AI Lab for Schools, a five-year initiative to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI), STEM, and Robotics training to over 25,000 students across 50 government high schools in Visakhapatnam district.
The program, led by the Cyient Foundation, the CSR arm of Cyient, aims to bridge the digital divide by giving students in Grades 7 to 10 hands-on exposure to emerging technologies. Each school will receive a fully equipped AI lab with computers, IoT devices, STEM and robotics kits, and broadband connectivity. Over 200 teachers will undergo structured training to ensure long-term impact.
During the launch, Mr. Lokesh praised B.V. Mohan Reddy, founder of Cyient, noting that AI could transform education much like electricity and automobiles shaped the past. He highlighted a project at Chandrampalem School where AI was used to automate plant watering. He also proposed setting up an Advisory Council with Mr. Mohan Reddy as chairman to strengthen school education.
Dr. Mohan Reddy said the initiative goes beyond CSR, bringing advanced technology into government classrooms and giving students opportunities to excel in the digital era. The program emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning, workshops, and innovation challenges, with monitoring and certification to track progress.
Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, CyAILS builds on the Foundation’s work in digitizing over 120 government schools for more than 35,000 students. Beyond education, the Foundation supports women’s empowerment and rural development, training over 2,000 rural women annually and transforming villages like Mokshagundam with full school enrollment and improved healthcare and sanitation.
Through programs such as the BVR School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at IIT Hyderabad, the Foundation promotes innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship among students.
