Vizag Navy Marathon to be held on December 13; registrations open October 4

The 11th edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon (VNM), a flagship event of the Eastern Naval Command’s Navy Day celebrations, will be held here on December 13, with registrations for the four race categories opening on October 4.

The event, which has State Bank of India (SBI) as its title sponsor, is expected to draw thousands of participants. Registrations can be made through the official website, www.vizagnavymarathon.run.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Commodore SS Dhody, Race Organiser and Commanding Officer, INS Kalinga, said the organisers were looking forward to greater participation from the people of Visakhapatnam as part of efforts to promote a healthier lifestyle.

The marathon will feature 42K, 21K, 10K, and 5K categories, with the route accredited by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). A total prize purse of approximately ₹10 lakh will be shared among the winners across all categories.

Participants will receive a race kit, event T-shirt, medal, refreshments, and a participation certificate.

The marathon has grown significantly since its first edition, with participation increasing from around 4,000 runners in 2014 to nearly 17,000 in 2025, Commodore Dhody said.

Promotional activities for the 2026 edition are already underway, with promo runs and conditioning and strength-training sessions being held at RK Beach as part of the build-up to the event.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the Vizag Navy Marathon had evolved beyond being a sporting event and reflected the city’s growing emphasis on health and well-being.

He said the marathon also offered participants an opportunity to experience Visakhapatnam’s coastline and scenic surroundings while taking part in a professionally organised sporting event.

Mr. Garg appealed to residents to participate in large numbers and make the 11th edition of the marathon a memorable event.
