SCoR General Manager leads cleanliness drive at Visakhapatnam station

South Coast Railway (SCoR) General Manager Sandeep Mathur on Thursday led a cleanliness and awareness drive at Visakhapatnam Railway Station as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign.

Mr. Mathur, along with senior railway officials and staff, participated in ‘Shramdaan’ at the Gnanapuram circulating area and station entrance under the theme ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’.

He later inspected the station, focusing particularly on Platform No. 8, and reviewed the use of mechanised cleaning equipment, including ride-on scrubber-driers, high-pressure jet cleaners and mechanised sweepers. He directed officials to ensure that the equipment is regularly maintained and used efficiently.

A Safai Mitra also inaugurated an electrically operated compaction litter bin at the station.

The General Manager inspected passenger facilities, including drinking water booths, waiting halls, catering stalls, foot overbridges and track beds. He reviewed waste segregation, handling and disposal practices, and called for the adoption of scientific waste-management methods.

He directed the station administration and the Railway Protection Force to strengthen monitoring of littering through the CCTV network and to impose spot fines on offenders.

Mr. Mathur also interacted with passengers and sought their feedback on cleanliness and amenities. He appealed to them to use designated waste bins and refrain from littering platforms and tracks.

As part of the campaign, SCoR will organise a plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative at its newly constructed zonal office complex at Mudasarlova on October 2.
