AI Not a Threat, but an Advantage, Say Experts at GiHIVE-2026
Artificial Intelligence (AI) should be viewed as an enabler rather than a threat to human potential, industry experts emphasised at the GITAM HR Interaction & Value Exchange (GiHIVE-2026), organised by the Career Guidance Centre of GITAM Deemed-to-be University on Friday.
Speakers noted that while AI is rapidly reshaping entry-level roles, distinctly human capabilities such as critical thinking, creativity, ethical judgment, and the ability to learn continuously remain beyond automation. They encouraged students to adopt a multidisciplinary mindset to stay competitive in the changing employment landscape.
Panel discussions explored themes including AI’s role in global hiring, emerging competencies sought by employers, its influence on fresher recruitment, and the evolving nature of job profiles.
GITAM Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Y. Gouthama Rao observed that the New Education Policy (NEP) allows students to develop skills beyond their primary disciplines. Highlighting the pace of technological change, he stressed the importance of lifelong learning and constant upskilling in the AI-driven era.
HR leaders from leading organisations shared practical perspectives on recruitment trends. They reassured students that human judgment will continue to play a central role in decision-making, while underlining the need for graduates to develop a functional understanding of AI tools and technologies.
Experts also pointed out that employers increasingly prioritise skills, analytical ability, communication proficiency, ethical values, and innovative thinking over high CGPA scores in fresher hiring. Additionally, they advised students that responsible engagement on professional and subject-focused social media platforms can improve visibility among recruiters.
The programme was coordinated by Career Guidance Centre Directors Dr. Rojeena Mathew, Dr. Edwin Anthony, and Ms. Umadevi, and was attended by students, faculty members, and industry representatives.
