Amaravati to be developed as quantum technology hub: Naidu
Andhra Pradesh is shaping Amaravati into a major centre for quantum technologies, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Saturday. He said the State aims to lead India’s next phase of technological growth.
Mr. Naidu laid the foundation stone for the Amaravati Quantum Valley at Uddandarayunipalem. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the State was building Amaravati as a creator of frontier technologies. He said Andhra Pradesh would design, develop, and own quantum capabilities. The State would focus on research, systems development, and intellectual property.
Mr. Naidu said quantum technologies would drive progress in artificial intelligence, defence, healthcare, space, energy, finance, communications, and climate science. He said regions with strong technology ecosystems lead innovation. Dependence on imports, he added, weakens long-term growth. The Quantum Valley would help the State shift from participation to leadership in a strategic domain.
Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, RTGS, and Human Resource Development, Nara Lokesh, said Andhra Pradesh was preparing to lead India’s quantum mission. He compared the effort to the country’s rise as a global IT hub.
Mr. Lokesh said the Quantum Valley would function as a full-stack ecosystem. It would integrate skilling, research, startups, and industry. He said the State had partnered with IBM, Tata Consultancy Services, and Larsen & Toubro. Academic collaborations include the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati.
He said State skilling programmes had trained over 50,000 youth in emerging technologies. The government plans to expand quantum skills, support startups, and strengthen research from Amaravati.
Officials said the Amaravati Quantum Valley would boost India’s quantum computing and advanced research capabilities. They added that the project would strengthen Amaravati’s role in the national technology ecosystem.
