Amaravati to Host India’s First Dedicated AI Campus

Amaravati is set to become a national hub for advanced technology education as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani moves ahead with plans for the country’s first AI-focused campus. On Friday, Minister for HRD and IT, Nara Lokesh, reviewed the campus blueprint, underscoring strong government support for a project that could place Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of innovation and research.

BITS representatives Siddharth Banerjee, N. Chennaveer, and B.S. Sahani met the Minister at his Undavalli residence to present the campus plans. The Amaravati facility will offer courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Computational Linguistics, and Cyber-Physical Systems.

Planned in two phases, the campus will accommodate around 7,000 students, with a ₹1,000 crore investment over five years. Officials emphasized that the design reflects Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision, integrating cutting-edge technologies with eco-friendly features such as green buildings and renewable energy. Programs in agriculture, climate, and healthcare will also be part of the curriculum, giving the campus a multidisciplinary edge.

Construction has already begun. Officials assured the Minister that the project will meet global standards in infrastructure and sustainability. Expressing satisfaction with the plans, Minister Lokesh urged the BITS team to fast-track the project to make the Amaravati campus operational as soon as possible.

Once complete, the Amaravati BITS campus is expected to become a leading center for research and innovation, attracting top talent from across India and abroad and setting a benchmark for AI and emerging technologies education.
