AMTZ launches new MedTech tower to boost healthcare innovation

The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam, one of India’s leading medical technology hubs, has opened a new 1,00,000 square-foot innovation tower. The facility will support MedTech startups and strengthen India’s position in healthcare innovation globally.

The tower is located near the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and provides modern infrastructure, including laboratories, co-working spaces, product testing areas, and creative work environments. It is part of the AIC-AMTZ MediValley Incubation Centre, which currently supports more than 150 MedTech startups in India. With this new addition, MediValley plans to increase its capacity to 300 startups by the end of the 2026 financial year.

The innovation tower includes rapid prototyping labs, regulatory support, and research and development facilities. It is designed to help entrepreneurs turn ideas into real products, from surgical devices to AI-powered wearables and robotic medical equipment.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Executive Chairman of AIC-AMTZ MediValley and CEO of AMTZ, said the initiative shows India’s commitment to healthcare technology.
“This is about more than just space. We’re building capacity for India’s next generation of MedTech leaders. Every idea, big or small, deserves support to grow into a product that saves lives,” he said.

To meet rising demand, AMTZ Visakhapatnam also plans a second incubation hub of 50,000 square feet.

The MediValley incubation centre connects startups with funding agencies like DBT-BIRAC, NITI Aayog, DPIIT, ICMR, and the Department of Pharmaceuticals. It also works with global organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Health Innovation Forum, TiE, and the International Association of Science Parks (IASP).

In the past five years, MediValley has supported over 150 startups, produced more than 40 research outcomes, and helped create patents and technology transfers.

Located on the 270-acre AMTZ Visakhapatnam campus, MediValley also collaborates with the International Board of Surgical Certification (IBSC), Biovalley, and the upcoming MedTech University. These efforts are helping build a strong and supportive ecosystem for MedTech entrepreneurs in India.
