Anakapalli Hostel Girls Allege Food Shortage, Lokesh Pledges Action
A social media video has drawn attention to alleged food shortages at the BC Welfare Girls Hostel in Cheedikada, Anakapalli district. IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh promised to act and expressed regret over the students’ difficulties.
In the video, students said the hostel did not provide enough food. “We often get very little. When we ask for more, the staff insult us and ask why we are complaining,” one girl said.
The students also said hostel staff used abusive language. They alleged that management took milk packets, chicken, and other supplies for personal use. “Our basic needs are ignored. We just want proper meals,” another student said.
Mr. Lokesh responded on X (formerly Twitter). He said he was disturbed by the video and would raise the issue with the authorities. “I will take this up with BC Welfare Minister Savitha and ensure that my young sisters receive nutritious, good-quality food. My apologies for the inconvenience,” he tweeted.
The BC Welfare Department said it would inspect the hostel immediately. Officials will check food supplies and monitor staff behavior. Local authorities in Anakapalli have been asked to ensure standards are met and report corrective actions.
The video has sparked discussion about oversight in state-run hostels. Advocates want stricter monitoring of food quality and timely meals. They also demand that complaints are addressed without retaliation.
With the video spreading online, authorities face growing pressure to guarantee proper nutrition and a safe environment for students.
