Anakapalli Police Return 750 Phones Worth Rs 1.5 Crore

The Anakapalli district police on Wednesday returned 750 recovered and lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 1.50 crore to their owners as part of the 11th phase of the Mobile Recovery Mela. Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha attended the event. The initiative has been ongoing since June 2022.

Mr Sinha said the latest phase takes the total number of recovered devices to 4,086, valued at Rs 6.77 crore. This year, three melas were conducted, through which police traced and returned 1,880 mobile phones worth Rs 3.70 crore.

He commended the district’s IT core team for its role in tracking phones not only within Anakapalli but also across neighbouring districts and states, including Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Telangana. He noted that mobile phones now carry sensitive personal and financial information, which makes their recovery especially important for victims.

Mr Sinha also said that citizens no longer need to visit police stations to report a missing device. Complaints can be filed on the Union government’s portal www.ceir.gov.in by submitting the IMEI number and phone model. Residents of Anakapalli district can also begin the process by sending a “Hi” message to the police WhatsApp number 93469 12007 to receive a link for filing an online complaint.

Cyber Cell CI B. Venkata Rao, IT Core SI Suresh Babu and other officials were present.
