Andhra Pradesh sets up Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has recognised Andhra Pradesh for establishing the Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) in Visakhapatnam. Led by Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), the centre aims to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and clean technology innovation.
The BEE described CoEET as a landmark initiative, noting its launch comes ahead of the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam. The summit will bring global experts together to discuss modern power infrastructure, energy cost optimisation, and renewable integration.
During a meeting with Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, a senior official from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) outlined recent projects by BEE and EESL designed to enhance energy efficiency and tackle climate change. Vijayanand thanked the organisations for their support and said the State Government, under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to providing reliable 24×7 power to attract investment.
Under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, Andhra Pradesh plans to mobilise Rs 10 lakh crore in green energy investments by 2029. The State has also partnered with NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) to establish a Green Hydrogen Hub near Visakhapatnam, with an estimated investment of Rs 1.85 lakh crore. The project will contribute to India’s 500 GW non-fossil energy target and 260 GW renewable capacity goal by 2030.
BEE Secretary Milind Deore praised Andhra Pradesh for the initiative and commended APEPDCL CMD Prudvitej for overseeing more than 20 research and pilot projects and training over 1,000 professionals and engineers in energy efficiency.
