Andhra Pradesh Targets ₹308 Lakh Crore Economy by 2047
Governor S. Abdul Nazeer on Wednesday addressed a joint sitting of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature, outlining the government’s priorities for 2026–27. He said the State is moving into a phase of sustained growth under the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision.
Opening the budget session, the Governor set a long-term goal. Andhra Pradesh, he said, aims to become a ₹308 lakh crore economy with a per capita income of ₹55 lakh by 2047. He added that the past nineteen months marked a shift from economic revival to stability. This progress, he noted, came through fiscal consolidation, stronger institutions, and citizen-focused governance.
Healthcare received major attention. The Governor announced a Universal Health Coverage scheme that will provide insurance of ₹2.5 lakh to every resident. In addition, 1.43 crore below-poverty-line families will qualify for cashless treatment of up to ₹25 lakh a year. The coverage will also include advanced medical procedures.
Turning to demographic concerns, Mr. Nazeer cited a fertility rate of around 1.5. Therefore, the State adopted a Population Management Framework. Measures include removing the two-child norm for local body polls, expanding maternity benefits, and extending welfare schemes such as Thalliki Vandanam to all children.
On the economy, the Governor said the government is focusing on infrastructure, industrial growth, and regional equity. He reported that 610 MoUs worth ₹13.25 lakh crore were signed at the CII Summit. These, he said, could generate more than 16 lakh jobs. Meanwhile, the State Investment Promotion Board cleared proposals valued at ₹8.74 lakh crore.
Among new initiatives, he announced the Amaravati Quantum Valley. The project aims to position the capital region as a hub for Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence. He also highlighted an MoU with Singapore to boost sustainable urban governance and digital infrastructure in Amaravati.
Reaffirming its irrigation push, the Governor said the Polavaram Project remains on track for completion by June 2027. At the same time, preparations for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu are underway.
According to the First Advance Estimates for 2025–26, Andhra Pradesh’s GSDP rose to ₹17.62 lakh crore, recording nominal growth of 10.75 per cent. Per capita income, he added, increased to ₹2.95 lakh.
Describing these trends as signs of steady recovery, Mr. Nazeer urged collective participation. He called on all stakeholders to help build a Wealthy, Healthy, and Happy Andhra Pradesh aligned with India’s 2047 development vision.
