AP Chambers Welcomes Vijayawada–Singapore Direct Flight

The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) has expressed its gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu for securing direct air connectivity between Vijayawada and Singapore.

In a statement, Potluri Bhaskara Rao, President of AP Chambers, said the federation had been pursuing this connectivity for the past four to five years. “This long-awaited development will significantly strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s links with South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region,” he said. “It will benefit trade, NRIs, business travellers, and tourists, while providing a strong impetus to the growth and investment prospects of the Amaravati Capital Region.”

Mr. Bhaskara Rao further emphasised the need to establish direct Vijayawada–Dubai connectivity. “Such a route is crucial for enabling seamless access to the USA, Europe, and Africa through Dubai’s international aviation hub,” he said. “It would open up new opportunities for exports, tourism, and global business linkages for the State.”

AP Chambers also urged the government to establish an international air cargo terminal at Vijayawada Airport, along with a notified customs centre to handle export and import consignments. “At present, exporters are compelled to route cargo through Hyderabad or Bengaluru airports, which adds both time and cost,” the statement said.

The federation highlighted the need for infrastructure support such as cold storage and temperature-controlled logistics to facilitate the export of perishable goods, processed food items, shrimp, flowers, and pharmaceuticals.

“Developing these facilities will unlock the region’s export potential and position Andhra Pradesh as a competitive trade and logistics hub in South India,” Mr. Bhaskara Rao added.
