AP State Launches 15,672 Medical Camps to Boost Women’s Health

Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar on Wednesday launched 15,672 medical camps across the State under the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan.’ The initiative offers free health check-ups and raises awareness about preventive care, especially for women in underserved areas.

Since the programme began, nearly 80,000 people have undergone tests. More than 8,200 specialist doctors, supported by over 4,000 staff, are conducting screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, oral cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and other diseases.

“Oral cancer screenings have received a good response, but many women are still hesitant to come forward for cervical and breast cancer tests,” Mr. Satya Kumar said. “Some women are unaware of the importance of these tests.”

Doctors, working at a camp in Visakhapatnam, said, “These camps give women a chance to get tested early and receive guidance on preventive care. Awareness about breast and cervical cancer screening is still low, but turnout has been steady.”

The Minister also highlighted that around 14 lakh tribal people have been screened for sickle cell disease, with proper treatment ensured for those diagnosed.

Women attending the camps praised the initiative. Lakshmi from Vizianagaram said, “It is very helpful to get free check-ups nearby. I have learned about diseases I never thought about and how to prevent them.” Sunita Devi from Srikakulam added, “These camps encourage women to take their health seriously. Earlier, I was hesitant to go for tests, but now I feel supported.”

Mr. Satya Kumar also noted the Union Government’s focus on women’s empowerment, pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entrusted key portfolios to women leaders.
