AP to Build 4,472 Village Health Clinics at Rs 1,129 Crore

Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar has approved the construction of permanent buildings for 4,472 Village Health Clinics (VHCs) at a cost of ₹1,129 crore. The Centre will fund 80 percent of the project. Officials have been directed to complete the construction within one year.

Currently, Andhra Pradesh has 10,032 Village Health Clinics across 26 districts, but only 1,086 are operating from permanent government buildings. To improve rural healthcare, the government has cleared funds to finish pending works and build new facilities.

Of the sanctioned projects, 2,309 buildings will be completed where construction had stopped between 2019 and 2024 due to delays in fund release. Another 2,163 new VHCs will be built. Of these, 696 will be constructed under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, and 1,467 will be funded by the 15th Finance Commission grants.

The Health Minister said the Panchayat Raj Department will carry out the construction. He noted that the previous government completed only 3,105 of 8,946 planned clinics during 2019–24, while 2,309 other buildings were started but left incomplete under NREGS and the National Health Mission.

Satya Kumar added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Health Centres to strengthen primary healthcare in villages. With strong financial support from the Centre, Andhra Pradesh is now set to expand rural health infrastructure and ensure better healthcare access across the State.
