AP to equip all Anganwadis with induction stoves
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to provide energy-efficient induction stoves to all Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in the state under the Union government’s national efficient cooking programme, in a move aimed at promoting cleaner and safer cooking practices.
The decision comes amid a global LPG supply crisis and seeks to introduce modern, sustainable cooking solutions in Anganwadi kitchens across the state.
Under the first phase of the programme, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) supplied 11,400 induction stoves. Following further government approval, the agency has begun supplying the remaining 44,346 units, which will ensure complete coverage of all AWCs in Andhra Pradesh.
Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen women-focused welfare programmes while contributing to environmental sustainability.
According to P.S. Pradyumna, Secretary to the Chief Minister, the proposal received approval from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The programme is being implemented by the state’s Women Development and Child Welfare Department with support from EESL under the Union Ministry of Power.
The initiative is aligned with the Centre’s ‘Go Electric’ campaign and the national efficient cooking programme promoted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
Naidu recently expressed support for clean cooking technologies during an interaction with Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, highlighting their role in reducing environmental impact and improving quality of life.
Pradyumna described the programme as an important step in the state’s efforts to advance energy efficiency, women’s empowerment and sustainable development, while also supporting India’s climate commitments.
Welcoming the initiative, Akhilesh Kumar Dixit said the move reflects Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in adopting innovative technologies that protect the environment and support women’s welfare.
