APEPDCL showcases AI, GIS initiatives at summit
Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) presented its digital transformation initiatives at the International AI Summit held in the capital, with Chairman and Managing Director Prudhvitej Immadi outlining the utility’s progress in GIS-based asset mapping and artificial intelligence-driven grid management.
The summit brought together information technology experts, energy sector specialists, policymakers, and representatives from leading technology organisations.
APEPDCL screened a video highlighting its end-to-end Geographic Information System (GIS)-based asset mapping, the Digital Twin model of its distribution network, and the AI-enabled Electric Grid Reliability System.
According to officials, the utility has mapped network assets, including poles, transformers, feeders, and substations, onto a unified GIS platform. The system has been integrated with SAP ERP, the Outage Management System (OMS), and in-house mobile field applications to enable real-time monitoring and quicker responses.
The AI-enabled Electric Grid Reliability System uses smartphone-based inspections supported by deep learning models to detect issues such as pole lean, cross-arm tilt, structural cracks, corrosion, and safety clearance deficiencies. The approach, officials said, facilitates early corrective action and helps improve reliability.
The presentation received positive feedback at the summit, with participants appreciating the utility’s efforts to strengthen technology adoption.
Mr. Immadi said APEPDCL’s transition from digitisation to spatial intelligence reflected its commitment to improving operational efficiency and consumer service delivery.
The utility’s roadmap includes AI-based commercial loss detection systems, the establishment of an Intelligent Utility Operation Center (IUOC), expanded real-time feeder monitoring, and enhanced demand response mechanisms.
