APEPDCL warns on kite-flying power safety

Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) Visakhapatnam circle head G. Shyambabu on Monday appealed to the public to follow safety precautions to prevent electrical accidents during the Sankranti and Kanuma festivities, particularly while flying kites.

He advised people to fly kites only in open areas away from power lines, electric poles and transformers. “People should not attempt to touch torn kites stuck on power lines, electric poles or transformers under any circumstances,” he cautioned.

Shyambabu said that in the event of any electrical accident related to kite flying, the public should immediately inform electricity department officials or dial the emergency number 1912 and strictly follow safety guidelines prescribed by the power utility. He also stressed that children should fly kites only under adult supervision and only in locations free from electrical infrastructure.

Emphasising safety during festival decorations, he said flex banners should be installed and removed with due caution and kept away from overhead power lines. “Those flying kites from rooftops must first check for nearby power lines before engaging in the activity,” he added.

He further urged the public to report electricity-related issues only to authorised electricity department personnel and warned against seeking help from private individuals.
