BJP now world’s largest party with 14 crore members: JP Nadda in Visakhapatnam
BJP national president JP Nadda on Sunday said the party has emerged as the world’s largest political organisation with 14 crore members, of which two crore are active.
Addressing a public meeting organised on conclusion of the State-wide ‘Saradhyam’ yatra undertaken by party State president P.V.N. Madhav in Visakhapatnam, Nadda said the BJP has 240 Lok Sabha MPs, nearly 1,500 MLAs and more than 170 MLCs across the country. He described the Narendra Modi-led NDA government as “responsible and responsive,” contrasting it with what he called the “non-performance, corruption and appeasement” of previous regimes.
“In India, we have NDA governments in 20 states and BJP governments in 13 states. For the past 11 years under PM Modi, there has been politics of performance and accountability. Earlier, governments forgot the promises in their manifestos,” he said.
Highlighting the BJP’s ideological agenda, Nadda pointed to the abrogation of Article 370, construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, amendments to the CAA and Waqf Act, and the abolition of triple talaq.
On the economy, he said India, currently the world’s fourth-largest economy, is on course to become the third-largest. “PM Modi gave a gift to the nation by restructuring GST slabs from four to two. Our defence exports have increased sevenfold. India has become the world’s pharmacy and now produces 92 per cent of its mobile phones,” he said.
Citing central support to Andhra Pradesh, Nadda said Rs 15,000 crore was provided for the construction of Amaravati and institutions like IIT and IIM were set up in the state.
Targeting the previous YSRCP regime, he said it was a “government of non-governance and corruption.” Under Modi’s leadership, he added, the NDA government is “marching towards development.”
