Blood Centre Licence Suspended for Safety Violations

The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has suspended the licence of M/s Vijayasri Blood Centre, a unit of Vijayasri Memorial Charitable Trust at Maharanipeta, following the discovery of major safety lapses during surprise inspections. The facility has also been sealed.

The inspections, ordered by Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, revealed that unqualified personnel were handling crucial blood bank operations in the absence of medical officers. Officials found that specialised blood collection activities were being conducted without adequate equipment, quality control mechanisms were missing, and several blood donation camps had no proper records.

In response to these violations, M. Pandu Ranga Prasad, Director and State Licensing Authority of the DCA, issued “stop forthwith” orders, directing the immediate suspension of all operations at the blood bank until further notice.

Drugs Inspector M. Srinivas Rao stated that blood and blood components are life-saving resources that must be handled with utmost care. He emphasised that strict action will be taken against any blood banks or organisers conducting donation camps without qualified medical supervision.
