City prodigy earns place in AP U-14 squad

In a proud moment for the city’s cricketing circles, P. Yashil Vignesh, 13, has been selected to represent the Andhra Pradesh Under-14 State Cricket Team for the 2025–26 season.

Vignesh, son of Y. Madhu, a railway employee and accomplished railway cricketer, has steadily risen through the ranks with disciplined performances and a reputation for composure beyond his years. Trained at the Railway Cricket Academy, the youngster currently represents the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA), where he has impressed coaches with his technique, temperament, and match awareness.

Selection to the state squad is widely regarded as a significant milestone in a cricketer’s early career, often serving as a gateway to higher competitive platforms. At the Under-14 level, players gain exposure to structured training environments, inter-state tournaments, and professional scouting networks — experiences that play a crucial role in shaping their development.

Cricket observers note that competition at the state level is intense, with selectors evaluating not only skill but also consistency, fitness, and mental resilience. Vignesh’s inclusion reflects his sustained performances and ability to deliver under pressure.

The AP U-14 team is scheduled to participate in matches in Tamil Nadu, a circuit known for competitive fixtures and quality opposition. Vignesh is expected to play a key role as the team looks to build a strong campaign this season.

Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, Lalit Bohra congratulated the young cricketer and conveyed his best wishes, describing the achievement as “a matter of pride for the railway sporting fraternity and Visakhapatnam.”

Local coaches and cricket enthusiasts have also hailed the selection, expressing confidence that the youngster’s progress will inspire other budding players in the region.
