CM Launches ‘Araku Kouni’ Tribal Millet Menu

In a move to bring traditional tribal cuisine into the mainstream, N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched ‘Araku Kouni’, the State’s first tribal millet-based food menu, during the Collectors’ Conference at the Secretariat. The initiative aims to promote nutritious millet-based diets while showcasing the rich culinary traditions of tribal communities.

The ‘Araku Kouni’ menu features authentic tribal recipes sourced directly from indigenous communities in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district. Dishes such as Korra Payasam, Ragi Chapati, Samala Pulihora, Kantla Ambali, corn vada, and toor dal curry reflect the deep-rooted food traditions of Araku’s farmlands and forest regions.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to tribal development. The initiative was spearheaded by the district administration of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, with support from tribal anganwadi workers, the Indian Culinary Institute, and the Department of Tourism. All ingredients on the menu are cultivated in naturally rich environments, free of chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

The district tourism team, in collaboration with the Indian Culinary Institute, has documented the recipes, along with their nutritional values, calorific indices, and wellness attributes.

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation will introduce ‘Araku Kouni’ at all Haritha restaurants across the Alluri Sitarama Raju district. It will also extend it to other tourism chains in the State.
